A report from WalletHub determined Arizona is in 49th place out of 51 when it comes to providing support to people who are most at-risk of contracting COVID-19.
WalletHub compared all 50 states and the District of Columbia across three dimensions: Coronavirus Relief and Medical Services, Food and Housing Assistance, and Unemployment Support.
The report also gathered data from government, medical, and other social programs to determine where the states stacked up when it comes to providing coronavirus aid to at-risk communities.
Arizona also ranked 49th (second-to-last place) in food and housing assistance, as well as unemployment support.
WalletHub’s data also included factors like whether the state would offer free COVID-19 vaccines once they become available.
Massachusetts came in at the top spot for providing the most support during this devastating pandemic, while Mississippi and North Carolina are the only two states ranked even lower than Arizona.
The report noted that in addition to its physical toll, coronavirus is putting a significant strain on the finances of American households, and could spell big trouble for people already under pressure financially.
“People with low incomes are less equipped to weather the economic downturn caused by coronavirus,” the report said. “And some states have bigger problems on the horizon than others.”
