The US Interior Department on Tuesday unveiled a new program to bring electricity to more homes in Native American communities as the Biden administration looks to funnel more money toward climate and renewable energy projects.
President Joe Biden’s Investing in America agenda is pouring money into infrastructure and clean-energy projects across the US, including many in Arizona.Â
This funding’s aim is to help connect the estimated 8.5 million families and small businesses nationwide that still haven’t been able to access the full capabilities of modern technology.
Almost half of Arizonans only have one internet provider option, and nearly one-third of people in the state lack access to either broadband or any type of internet service.
The funding specifically comes from the EPA’s Clean School Bus Program, which provides school districts with rebates to replace existing school buses with clean models.
Several local advocates say that these new grants will help all Arizonans reduce their water usage, which will not only benefit local communities, but farms and ecosystems as well.
