Hundreds of jobs are up for grabs at Honeywell in Phoenix as the company announced it is putting its production of N95 masks into high gear.

“We already started bringing in new equipment last week,” Eric Krantz, a spokesperson from Honeywell’s Safety and Productivity Solutions division, told the Copper Courier.

“This ramp-up effort is expected to create 500 jobs in Phoenix,” Krantz added.

The need for more N95 masks has been consistently growing as the spread of COVID-19 continues and the corporate response from Honeywell is a result of a recent agreement between the company and the state.

In a press release, Gov. Ducey announced that he had secured an agreement with Honeywell to produce more than 6 million N95 masks for the state of Arizona over the next year.

According to the release, the company is ramping up production to be able to deliver masks to both the federal Department of Health and Human Services, as well as to the State of Arizona.

In order to mass produce N95 masks, Honeywell decided to expand its production facility in Phoenix at an existing company site. The chosen Aerospace facility, that has been manufacturing aircraft engines and power units since 1950, is now adding the production of PPE (Personal Protection Equipment).

According to the press release, the Arizona Department of Health Services will deliver the masks to county health departments to give out to health, safety, and emergency response workers.

“I’m grateful to Honeywell for stepping up and partnering with Arizona to help get these masks to our doctors, nurses and EMTs on the front lines,” Gov. Ducey said in the press release. “This is what exemplary corporate citizenship looks like.

Honeywell has reportedly already started recruiting, hiring, and training manufacturing workers for these hundreds of added production jobs.
