How Latino Stars Are Reaching Their Fans— Even During A Pandemic

In the midst of the global pandemic, these artists are the best example that the show must go on. 

The entertainment industry has been hit hard by the outbreak of the novel coronavirus, with many artists, such as singers Camila Cabello and Ricky Martin, canceling their world tours, and movie and television production at a standstill. But even when, figuratively speaking, the curtain comes down, these Latinx artists believe that “the show must go on.” So while they practice social distancing by staying at home, celebs like  Thalia, Gloria Trevi, and Alejandro Sanz still reach out to the public in different ways…

Thalia: “It’s time for home and family!”

The “Amor a la Mexicana” singer has been one of the first to offer encouragement in these difficult times. For the 48-year-old mother of Sabrina Sakae and Mattew Alejandro, her offspring with music mogul Tommy Mottola, an image is worth a thousand words. “Ready for anything!,” she wrote to her close to 16 million Instagram followers under a picture where she wields a sword. “Balance, strength, focus and certainty!” The star urged families to use this opportunity to share and become closer. “It’s time to be at home…  Games, talk, laughter, music, love, love and more love,” she recommended and added that it is crucial that people stay home to avoid the spread of the virus. The star also promised her followers that, while the quarantine lasts, she will share activities to entertain the little ones, as well as answer the questions that children are asking their mothers.

Ricky Martin: “We’re going to be fine”

The Puerto Rican heartthrob used his Instagram account to urge his fans to practice “social distancing.” And to bring the point home, the singer, who is very protective of his personal life, opened up to share what his friends in Italy and China told him: that if they could travel back in time, knowing what they know now, they would have done things differently. “Everyone tells me that they would have stayed home,” said Martin, who went on to tell his followers to accept this reality and “act responsibly,” before ending on a positive note. “Adelante! We’re going to be fine.” 

Elvis Crespo: “Time to Catch Up on Your Reading!”

Singer Elvis Crespo revealed on Instagram that he is using this “down” time to catch up on his reading, and suggested some inspirational titles to his fans. Among his recommendations are  “The Four Agreements,” by Mexican author Don Miguel Ruiz, and “The Alchemist,” by Brazilian Paulo Coelho. His own reading tastes run to the classics, as he now tackles “Don Quijote,” Cervantes’ epic work.

Zoe Saldana and Eiza Gonzáles: En español, for the kids

Jenna Ortega, Lupita Nyong’o, Demi Lovato, and Reese Witherspoon, are some of the Hollywood stars who have read children’s stories to entertain the kids while at home from school during the coronavirus scare. But actresses Zoe Saldana and Eiza González took it a step further, reading their stories to the little ones in Spanish, something that las mamás Latinas are sure to appreciate.

And while concerts have been canceled around the world, Latino megastars like Alejandro Sanz, Juanes, and legendary rocker Fito Paez have offered free online concerts for their fans from the comfort of their own homes, singing their hits, bringing them hope, and proving that when the going gets tough, the Latino stars get going.
