The head of the US Department of Homeland Security says Congress should approve permanent legal status to families separated at the border under the Trump administration, and the White House is behind him.Â
Judge Dana Sabraw has previously called the Trump administration’s "zero tolerance" policy of separating families at the Mexico-US border "brutal" and "offensive."
The Trump administration separated thousands of children from their families at the border between 2017 and 2018, and 545 children remain without their families.
