Arizona lawmakers just passed 3-year freeze on data center tax breaks. Here’s why


No other state has done what Arizona just did to data centers. Tucked into the new $18.3 billion state budget: a three-year freeze on tax breaks for new data centers—the longest moratorium in the nation, according to House Democratic Leader Oscar De Los Santos.

Arizona has been handing out these exemptions since 2013, and more than 150 data centers have moved in since—in a state that’s been in drought since 1994.
