Fontes blasts Kolodin over his vote on stolen valor

Democratic Secretary of State Adrian Fontes slammed his Republican opponent, Alexander Kolodin, for his 2025 vote against the Stolen Valor Act at a Monday press conference.

The legislation increases penalties for people who falsely claim military service to get benefits.

Kolodin opposed it, arguing it risked penalizing politicians for false campaign promises. The bill passed the House 54-1, with Kolodin the sole opposing vote.

It later went to the Senate, where only state Sen. Jake Hoffman (R-Queen Creek) opposed it. Gov. Katie Hobbs signed it into law in April 2025.
