Growing up in my small hometown, we only had one mall—so when people said “the mall,” you knew exactly what place they were talking about.
When I moved to the Valley, I quickly realized there were malls all around me, and I still haven’t visited many of them.
I do love hearing the history behind them, though, because it makes me nostalgic for my days of running through the mall with my friends, seeing movies and eating at the food court.
The Arizona Republic recently went through its archives and realized that the mall commonly cited as Arizona’s oldest opened a few months after a different mall.
