Have you ever been to Testal Mexican Kitchen? It’s located on Grand Avenue just outside of downtown Phoenix. 

I recently visited for the first time, and I’ll definitely be going back. The food is Northern Mexican, and most of their menu features burritos and tacos, among other options.

The burritos are small, Chihuahua-style, and there are several varieties to choose from, including vegan options.

I ordered a bean and cheese burrito and a deshebrada (shredded beef) burrito; both were amazing.

Testal also has a great cocktail menu, with several drinks featuring sotol, a distilled spirit made in the Chihuahuan Desert of northern Mexico. I found it tasted similar to mezcal, which has an earthy flavor.

Testal is more of a counter-service spot, but it also has a spacious outdoor patio and some indoor seating.
