Ducey has the lowest approval rating for a governor in the nation.
Gov. Doug Ducey received a lot of pushback for his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic in Arizona.
A recent poll found this approval rating has dropped to the lowest among all governors in the nation — even lower than President Donald Trump’s.
Some people are angry that he closed businesses at all, while others feel hasn’t acted quickly or decisively enough. Frustration has manifested in a number of ways: lawsuits from businesses, protests from residents, and now, memes.
Here are a few that have come across our feeds:
A Parody Briefing
Ducey’s semi-regular press briefings have become somewhat of a spectacle each week, with thousands of people tuning in to watch live.
Chandler-based comedy group ImprovMANIA put out a parody video nailing some of the governor’s best moments, including his oftentimes snippy exchanges with Arizona Capitol Times reporter Howie Fischer.
A Bingo Card
Are you one of Ducey’s press briefing regulars? Here’s a bingo card to help you follow along.
Memes
And here are some memes––including a rare hand-drawn one, expressing how the governor’s policies have made them feel.
Some poked fun at Ducey for referencing a meme in his briefing last week, having to explain it for the audience.
“Someone sent me a meme a few days ago,” the governor said, “and it showed a bunch of infantrymen storming Normandy Beach. And it basically said, ‘Our grandfathers stormed Normandy to defeat the Nazis.’ We’re asking you to stay home on the couch and and watch Netflix.”
Arizonans also balked at Ducey’s multiple urgings for the public to stay home and watch Netflix.
Former Gov. Jan Brewer even got in on the roasting.
And just for fun, here’s one referencing the whole debacle over Nike, Goodyear, and the Betsy Ross flag last year, back when shoe factories were our state’s biggest worry.
