Milk isn’t the only commodity being dumped in large amounts in Arizona as a result of the pandemic.
Crescent Crown Distributing is dumping thousands of kegs of beer because of low demand for the alcoholic beverage.
The beer distributing company had to dump a lot (and plans to dump more) of its product because the beer was spoiling.
Crescent Crown Distributing General Manager Joe Cotroneo told FOX 11 the company was at its peak inventory for kegs when COVID-19 hit the country hard in March.
The coronavirus outbreak meant no more spring training games, no more concerts, and no more large order for beer from restaurants.
At least 20,000 kegs will have to be thrown away… for now.
“We picked up just under a million dollars already in beer that we will need to destroy and unfortunately there is an amount equal to that depending on when we can open again,” Cotroneo told FOX 11.
Grocery and liquor stores, however, have helped to pick up some of the company’s inventory, which will help make up for some of the loss.
Additionally, Crescent Crown Distributing helped to make 400 gallons of hand sanitizer by recycling more than 16,000 gallons of draft beer.
Ducey announced restaurants will be able to start re-opening at partial capacity in May, with bars scheduled to re-open a little later. Ducey extended the state’s stay-at-home order until May 15.
