I booked a $4,000 Scottsdale spa experience—here’s why it’s worth every penny

We spent four hours alone in a luxury spa at the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess. Here’s why this over-the-top experience is perfect for couples.

When I booked Twilight Tranquility at the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess for my boyfriend’s birthday over Fourth of July weekend, I knew based on the $4,000 price tag that it would be special—but I had no idea just how decadent, intimate, and downright dreamy the evening would turn out to be. As someone who considers this spa my favorite in town, I was already familiar with its world-class service. But this new offering felt like the ultimate romantic escape, the perfect way to celebrate the man I love.

The magic of an empty spa

When we arrived at the spa, I was struck by how quiet it was. From countless prior visits, I’m used to the usual bustle—guests in robes padding around, the low hum of conversation, the closing of locker doors, and the buzz of hairdryers—but this time, it was almost eerily serene. With no one else around, we could hear the soothing background music echoing gently through the halls, and I was acutely aware of the sound the hot tub jets made down the hall. It felt as though the entire spa belonged to us (and it did!).

Private massages and thoughtful details

We stepped into the men’s side of the spa lounge and locker room area together, our voices hushed as if we didn’t want to disturb the magic. There was no rush, no noise—just peace and privacy. We slipped into our robes, choosing lockers at our leisure, knowing that we had the entire place to ourselves. The attendants had given us a phone number to call if we needed anything, but otherwise, they left us completely undisturbed.

The first part of our evening was a side-by-side 90-minute massage in a softly lit room. When we walked in, I noticed rose petals carefully arranged in heart shapes on each table—a thoughtful, romantic touch. The massage therapists were incredible, giving us the exact pressure and attention we each needed. At one point, mine applied a face mask while I was lying face up, a little extra indulgence. They were quiet, professional, and somehow managed to coordinate their timing perfectly without us even noticing.

A private courtyard feast under the stars

As our massages ended, the therapists opened a set of doors in front of our tables that I hadn’t even noticed, and my heart nearly swooned. Before us was a candlelit path leading to a private courtyard filled with towering palms and the gentle sound of a soothing water feature. In the center sat an intimate setup: a loveseat and a table adorned with Dom Pérignon chilling in a bucket, a beautifully arranged charcuterie board, chocolate-dipped strawberries, and colorful artisanal macarons. The attendants stood nearby just long enough to pop the champagne for us before slipping away, leaving us alone in our private paradise.

The strawberries were enormous, perfectly ripe, and coated in rich dark chocolate. The macarons were an assortment of flavors and hues—each one a little jewel. The charcuterie board was artfully arranged with prosciutto, aged gouda, creamy brie, house-made seasonal jam, and crispy lavash. Every bite felt indulgent, every sip of the chilled champagne pure luxury.

Stargazing at the rooftop pool

Later, we took our champagne up to the spa’s rooftop pool to escape the sweltering 102-degree Arizona evening heat—our ultra-plush spa robes were starting to feel a little too cozy.

So, we slipped into the cool water, enjoying every moment of having the entire rooftop to ourselves. We splashed, we stargazed, we soaked up the moment, and we kept marveling at how rare it was to experience something like this—completely private and utterly romantic.

The perfect ending to a decadent night

To round out the evening, we wandered back inside to enjoy the spa’s amenities. The eucalyptus-scented steam room felt incredible, and we lingered there before rinsing off in the showers. Four hours had flown by, yet we never felt rushed. It was as if time itself had slowed down, letting us fully immerse ourselves in our little bubble of bliss.

Twilight Tranquility is the ultimate romantic date night for couples. My boyfriend was astounded by the experience and kept telling me how special he felt—how will I ever top this birthday in years to come? The staff struck the perfect balance of being helpful yet scarce, allowing us to feel both cared for and completely alone.

Walking out at midnight, hand in hand, we felt refreshed, spoiled, and crazy in love. It wasn’t just a spa night. It was an experience—a decadent, dreamy memory we’ll carry with us forever.
