Gov. Doug Ducey on Monday took credit for the state’s massive budget surplus, but failed to mention that Arizona’s reserves were boosted in large part by President Joe Biden.
“We are sitting upon a surplus of several billion dollars fueled not by tax increases, but by the opposite: historic economic growth,” Ducey said during his state of the state address.
While it’s true Arizona already had a surplus before Biden’s American Rescue Plan was passed in 2021, the president’s law funneled more than $4 billion to Arizona’s state government. Rather than acknowledge this, Ducey instead blasted Biden for “Washington’s spending spree” while simultaneously taking credit for the state’s economic outlook.
