If Christmas spirit had a ZIP code, it would probably forward its mail straight to north Phoenix because The Biggest Little Christmas in Phoenix just snagged a very big win.
The wildly packed and joyfully chaotic holiday display at the home of Carl and Patty Jimenez, located near Union Hills Drive and First Avenue, officially lit up ABC’s “The Great Christmas Light Fight.”
Their four-bedroom home beat out competitors from California and Maryland, earning them the glowing light-bulb trophy and a cool $50,000. Host Carter Oosterhouse praised the couple’s nerdy creativity and their ability to cram what feels like an entire North Pole into a compact front and side yard.
The display, which started in 2014, now features glowing blow-mold snowmen, a penguin colony 22 birds strong, a kid-sized Winterfest village, “Gingerassic Park,” and even Arizona’s tiniest Christmas tree viewed through a microscope. There’s so much squeezed in that even a tiny TV inside a mini house plays an episode of the actual show.
The Jimenezes, self-proclaimed Disney and Star Wars fans, say they’ve simply created the kind of display they would want to visit. And Phoenix agrees because this “little” Christmas keeps getting bigger every year.
