Guillermo “Memo” Gallardo Barrera has lived in the US for 20 years, working as a construction worker and raising two children—both of whom are US citizens.
But in August 2025, Gilbert police pulled him over. When Barrera didn’t have a driver’s license, Gilbert police transferred custody of him to ICE, and ICE initiated removal proceedings, according to an ICE spokesperson.
Now detained in Florence, Barrera said his health is worsening. He has to use a cane to walk and his hands and feet go numb, but the guards won’t get him proper medical care.
The family is asking that members of the public who want to support Memo call the detention center at 520-868-9095, press 0 to speak with an operator, and request that Guillermo Gallardo Barrera, A#221325036, receive adequate medical care.
