What does it mean to be “middle class” these days? 

Pew Research Center defines it as households that have two-thirds to double the national median income, adjusted for household size and cost of living. 

But the incomes that fall in that range vary widely in terms of what one household can afford. For example, a SmartAsset study lists Phoenix’s middle-class income range as $56,831-$170,492—and we know households on the ends of that spectrum are living very different lives. 

I’ve linked a USA Today story below about this study, and I want to see if you can guess Arizona’s median middle-class household income before you check it out.
