House Bill 2862 would increase criminal penalties for individuals who wear masks or face coverings while committing crimes, but it does not prohibit law enforcement officers, including ICE agents, from wearing masks.
During a Senate Judiciary committee the bill was heard in last week, Sen. Analise Ortiz (D-Maryvale) attempted to point out this potentially harmful provision in the bill, but Sen. Wendy Rogers (R-Flagstaff), the committee chair, silenced her and sent the committee into recess, stating “we will not talk about ICE and masks and murdering anymore.”
HB2862 passed the committee.
