Arizona Democratic Rep. Yassamin Ansari hosted a read-in on July 1 at the US Capitol, where she and fellow House members, activists, veterans and students read the nearly 1,000 pages of the GOP’s budget bill.
She and others started reading at 8 a.m. and continued reading the bill line by line, highlighting its “devastating” impacts on healthcare, education, and housing.
“Trump and Republicans’ reconciliation bill is a complete disaster for the future of young people in Arizona and across our nation,” said Ansari. “And it’s all so Republicans can push through the largest transfer of wealth in American history.”
The Senate narrowly passed the bill the same morning. It now goes to the House for a final vote.
