The University of Arizona has achieved recognition in global academic excellence, securing a position among the world’s elite educational institutions. This acknowledgment comes from the 2025 Center for World University Rankings (CWUR), which evaluated over 21,400 universities worldwide.

Global recognition and national standing
In the latest CWUR rankings, the University of Arizona claimed the 102nd position globally, while standing at 49th among U.S. institutions and 26th among public universities. This placement situates the university within the top 0.5% of academic institutions worldwide.
Comprehensive evaluation criteria
The rankings are determined through a detailed assessment framework that evaluates multiple aspects of university performance. The university received an overall score of 81.9 out of 100, with particularly strong performance in faculty achievements, ranking 75th globally in the quality of faculty category.
The CWUR assessment is based on seven key indicators:
- (25%) Educational quality, based on alumni achievements and academic distinctions
- (25%) Graduate employability, measured by alumni in top executive positions
- (10%) Faculty quality, determined by academic distinctions
- (40% total) Research performance, including: Research output, high-quality publications, research influence, and citation impact

The CWUR ranking system stands out for its objective approach, utilizing over 74 million data points to evaluate institutions. Unlike some other ranking systems, it doesn’t rely on surveys or university-submitted data, instead focusing on measurable outcomes across both student and faculty achievements. Last but not least, in the research performance category, the University of Arizona secured the 117th position globally, demonstrating its significant contribution to academic research and scholarly output.
