Meme Roundup: Internet Roasts Rep. Kevin McCarthy After Being Ousted as Speaker of the House

By Camaron Stevenson

October 3, 2023

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy was voted out of the job Tuesday, as a contingent of hard-right conservatives punished McCarthy for working with Democrats to pass a short-term budget last week.

McCarthy’s ouster was the first time in US history that a House Speaker has been removed from the role.

Arizona’s congressional delegation took an unusual split: Republican Reps. Andy Biggs and Eli Crane joined Democrats Ruben Gallego, Raúl Grijalva, and Greg Stanton in voting to oust McCarthy, while Republican Reps. Juan Ciscomani, Paul Gosar, Debbie Lesko, and David Schweikert voted to keep him as Speaker of the House.

While the vote leaves the House in an uncertain situation, with just over a month to pass a budget in order to avert a government shutdown, many people found comfort in humor.

And at The Copper Courier, so do we: that’s why we’ve compiled some of the best memes that have popped up chronicling this historic event.
