Mesa Public Library has partnered with Jimmy Eat World on a limited-edition commemorative ticket-stub library card.

The card was designed to recognize two milestones — the 120th anniversary of Mesa Public Library and the 25th anniversary of “Bleed American,” the double-platinum breakthrough that gave the world “The Middle,” taking Jimmy Eat World from Mesa to the masses.

The local music legends have been honoring that anniversary all year, revisiting the album every night on a tour they kicked off with a sold-out show at Red Rocks Amphitheatre and brought to downtown Phoenix for a night with My Chemical Romance at Chase Field.

All four members of Jimmy Eat World spoke to The Arizona Republic earlier this year about the anniversary.

Bassist Rick Burch said playing those songs on tour is “a reminder and a celebration of an event, a thing, this album, ‘Bleed American,’ that kind of sent us on to the life that we know now. We had no idea what the future held, but it sent us on a very wonderful adventure playing rock ‘n’ roll around the world for all these years. It’s nice to be able to remember that and honor that.”

Jimmy Eat World library cards are available Oct. 10 at Mesa Public library

Jimmy Eat World library cards will be available starting Saturday, Oct. 10, at the 120th anniversary celebration at the Mesa Main Library, an event that runs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Current card holders will be able to exchange their cards for free. Anyone who lives, works or goes to school in Maricopa County will be able to register for a card. Cards will be available at all four full-service branches and on the Read Runner.
