When you think of Tucson, pizza might not be the first culinary item that comes to mind. But if you’re on the lookout for a solid slice of ‘za, rest assured, there are plenty of options available to you in the Tucson area. However, The Copper Courier only wants to recommend the very best pizza place, so we tasked our readers with voting on their top picks. Over 500 loyal readers showed up and out and shared their thoughts, and now we can share with you the winners!
3. Charred Pie
Located in the Oro Valley Marketplace is Charred Pie. This family-owned and operated establishment uses a 700 degree woodfired pizza oven imported from Italy. In other words, they know what they’re doing. Especially since they took their job seriously and spent two years perfecting the dough and sauce recipes.
Their dough is made with a sourdough starter that is proofed for at least 24 hours, and their sauce is made with Ciao tomatoes imported directly from Italy. While Charred Pie has the standard pizza toppings, they’re not afraid to get creative. Try their Mexican Street Corn Pizza for instance. It merges a variety of flavors with its garlic crema base with queso, mozzarella, corn, and lime.
Patrons often recommend this creative fusion pizza, but they’re also best known for their woodfired bread. If you plan to visit Charred Pie, your order is all set: a woodfired bread app with a Mexican Street Corn Pizza main. You’re welcome!
Charred Pie is coming in at third place, but this snazzy little family-owned pizza parlor is nothing to scoff at. They’ve also received two other notable awards, so you know they mean business with their pies.
2. Grandma Tony’s
Coming in at second place is Grandma Tony’s. Since 2015, this humble establishment has received many iterations of “Best Pizza” awards, so you know they can be trusted. They’re pros at this point, having over a decade of nominations and awards under their belts.
No matter your pizza preference, you can definitely make it a reality at Grandma Tony’s. They have the standard selections, such as a pepperoni and cheese or a supreme, but if you want to get creative, you can always Build-Your-Own. Choose a side of breadsticks, cheesy bread, or wings. Even better, Grandma Tony’s has daily specials and a bunch of different combos that help you feed a Party of 1 or the whole fam.
With three locations across Tucson, you can be sure there’s a Grandma Tony’s near you.
1. Rocco’s Little Chicago
Want a taste of Chicago in Tucson? Rocco’s Little Chicago has been serving Chicago-style pizza since 1998. With almost 30 years of cheesy goodness, it’s no surprise that they scored first place for Best Pizza.
Rocco’s Little Chicago serves both thin crust and deep-dish pizza, and they toss around dish names like “Fungus Humongous” and “Heart Attack”—both of which are fan-favorites. If you’re a mushroom lover, order the first. A meat lover? Don’t skip the Heart Attack (don’t let the name scare you away!) and enjoy a deep-dish pie filled with sausage, pepperoni, prosciutto, roast beef, and extra cheese. Maybe add in some cardio afterwards to stave off a heart attack, though!
With daily specials, award-winning chicken wings, and Eli’s Cheesecake shipped straight from the Windy City, you’re all set for a night out at the Best Pizza place in Tucson.
