@coppercourier The iconic @thebarriocafe in Phoenix is closing at the end of May. According to @azcentral, @chefsilvana Salcido Esparza opened the restaurant in 2002 with $38,000. Esparza achieved great success with the restaurant, becoming a semifinalist for James Beard Best Chef Southwest seven times and once for the national Outstanding Chef award. She has also been an advocate for immigrant and LGBTQ rights. Esparza said in a video posted to Instagram that she is shutting down the restaurant due to her age and health, but she is continuing her work with food elsewhere: in a new book called "La Hija de la Chingada: Chronicles of a Mexican Chef in the U.S.A." . . . . #barriocafe #SilvanaSalcidoEsparza #jamesbeard #arizonarestaurants #azrestaurants #arizonafood #azfood #azfoodie #phoenixfoodie #latinos #az #arizona #azcheck #latinassupportinglatinas #latinassupportinglatinas♥️ #latinassupport #latinostiktok #latinosbelike ♬ original sound – Copper Courier
